2016 Faves

I am an avid movie fan. From Disney’s 101 dalmatians to the classic When Harry Met Sally. I have to admit that they year I don’t feel like I’ve visited the cinema as much as I should have in 2016, and I probably haven’t opened my eyes to many future classics. Instead, I’ve literally been doing other things, and in between that, I’ve been trying to keep with With Pretty Little Liars (I’m only on season 4 so no spoilers please!).

I thought I would just give a little run down of my favourite films from the year just gone, even if it’s just to remind myself in a year or so about some crackers that I might forget: If you haven’t caught any of the followI’d seriously suggest you do!

My Biggest Disappointments

My only real disappointing film of 2016 would be Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, I think I was so keen to see this film, I assumed it would be just like the bad ass DC version of Avengers Assemble, but there really is no comparison between Marvel and DC movies. I know a lot of people really did love the film – and I respect that – however personally, I just thought the film focused too heavily on Will Smith’s character Deadshot and the story was seriously lacking. I didn’t approve of the special effects in the ‘big’ finishing scenes with Enchantress and Jared Leto’s joker should have played a bigger role in the entire film. Sorry guys – just not for me.

Films i was introduced to in 2016 and loved…

Before we go (2014) Dir. Chris Evans 

Although this film was released back in 2014, my eyes were only awakened to this sweet production in late 2016 thanks to it’s addition to Netflix (and my love of Chris Evans ..that’s Captain America Christ Evans… not Radio DJ Christ Evans…). It’s a heart-warming independent movie set on the streets of New York,  focusing on two strangers who grow to trust each other and face their fears together. The directorial debut from Chris Evans was what initially drew me in, but it’s seriously worth a watch.

Gone Girl (2014) Dir. David Fincher

I somehow had always wanted to see this film but never had. The sick and twisted premise is seriously odd and I really think Rosamund Pike’s character .. who unfortunately happens to be named Amy is just unfathomably crazy. Having said this, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I love a thiller that really does keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time and it actually reminded me a little of The girl on the train (2016). If you’re not too scared of shocking scenes that make you squirm, then I’d definitely recommend this film.

Falling in love (1984) Dir. Ulu Grosbard

Starring a young Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro, this picture illustrates the meeting of two strangers on Christmas Eve and how they fall in love over time. It’s a really interesting film – I wouldn’t want to give too much away, but if you’re a fan of romance, and either of it’s Hollywood stars then this is one you need to watch. (It’s currently on Netflix UK)
